A HAMLET OF WAR

Gazing all around

All I see is a cruel battle scene

With obnoxious smell of blood,
The stench grows stronger

Lost souls scattered round the lieu

No flies or vulture to feast when due

As I look around,

My heart drowns in despair

Hardly can I see

For my eyes are dazzled with fumes.

Can this war just end?

My eardrums ache from the pandemonium of gunfire

The thoughts and images of killings

Scare me to death

I seek an end to this battle

I try to keep hopes alive

This is nothing but a hamlet of death.

I have seen it all

I can no less regard others

I have been there

Now I am more prudent.

NOTE: War undoubtedly has with it, several destructive impacts. Over the years, research has it that the traumatic impacts of war allows for the manifestation of resilience. This does not go to say that war should be encouraged as its negative effects continues to supercede its positive effects.

This is a very nice write up. Captures the true effect of war. At the end of the day, the ones who make the decisions are not affected.
    In truth, war scares all.

Your write up is encouraging to the two parties that engages in act of war which is not profitable at the end, because both will have injuries or casualties. War can not be the answer for peace, understanding is the Paramount. Keep it up.

War has no other effect than to inflict death and scars on the body and mind of the masses by leaders who bear no brunt of it. Isidore Okpewho in his fictional work ‘heroes’ says a sensible war is one based on principle of collective referendum by the masses. But is there any one who wishes to loss his/her life in a process to freedom? Hence war is not a good means to any end. Good write-ups tobigs, keep the pen bleeding!

Well. War can be interpreted on many grounds. At the end, it all dwells on which side of the war one’s on. Some are in for selfish interests, some for credible reasons, some think it’s the only way to show power while others resorted because it turned out to be the last and only resort when diplomacy doesn’t work. The campaign against war should be proactive, so solutions are proffered before war gets preferred.
